An Outsiders Perspective: For What It's Worth

In a nutshell, I see some good teams out there.

But with the same caveats as my friend, Scott, here are a few observations.

Andre Johnson is a good, solid pick, if you ask me. Good things are coming from the Texans. Carr ain't no slouch (or Couch, if you will) either. I wouldn't misunderestimate the Texans.

Brett Favre was a bulwark for my championship team last year in my other keeper league. Yes, he's a bit older and not so flashy and maybe less exciting than thinking you're getting some younger guy. But hey, Brett and Jamal Lewis shouldered the burden for an otherwise mediocre team for me last year, and I won. In short, I like him and I'd take him again.

Derrick Mason is another one of those guys. Flashy, no. But he missed 100 hard games on numerous occasions last year by a yard or two. Solid stuff.

The biggest surprise to me was how far Stephen Davis fell. Why, b/c he's old?

I was also a little surprised that Jamal Lewis didn't go higher--but there is that little thing about the jail time (and Kanako's Randy Moss fetish).

This may come as a surprise to some, or many, but I really like the look of the Bobcats. Yes, there are some questions--you know, the jail time and all. But if things fall into place, this could be tough team to beat. Naturally, I fear for the effect on morale without Joe Jurevicious, but I suspect the Bobcats owner will find a way to bring Joe home before all is said and done.

I think Favre and Holmes could take the Steamrollers a long way, too.

Bulger, Tomlinson and Gonzo could be formidable, too, except that San Diego doesn't have an offensive line, so far as I've heard. But then, they never have, so far as I know, and Tomli is well...Tomli. Bulger seems to me to be sort of a crap shoot--but then, I don't like the Rams, so I may be biased.

The Sluts also strike me as pretty much all around tough. Though, I'm not completely sold on Bruce, either (I wouldn't pick him--except maybe at around #192)--and to some extent, Shockey. I think I have somewhat higher hopes for Vick than Scott does. I mean, hey, the raw talent has to go for something.

The Blackouts and Wild Things also certainly show very good potential. But I'll admit that I don't even know who Antonio Gates is. But then, if you don't have Gonzo at TE, it doesn't really matter. If I were so rash as to predict, I'd say they should be tough to beat.

Of course, it's really too early to tell, and I'd be hesitant to put my money anywhere, just yet. For example, another quick glance shows me the combo of Culpepper, Harrison, Heap and Driver. Yeah, Driver didn't do squat last year, and quite frankly, pissed me off. But you never know. He's decent and Favre is still there. Culpepper is as good a player as there is, and Harrison is gold. I'd be happy with that team even if I had actually picked them, and I'd definitely be happy with them as auto-draft picks. (As I'm sure a certain late-comer to the draft last year would have been...haha...)

Oh yeah, that Delhomme guy...didn't he almost win the Superbowl last year, or something like that?

Matt, thanks for the commentary, keep it coming. You will have to live vicariously through this blog. I don't think you have access to the site anymore? So this blog should be a good instrument for your siren songs.

The Manhandlers? Huh? Of course, I always fear Kanako--and plenty of love out to her...but I am unable to discern a reason to fear the Manhandlers. Sorry, Kanako, but all those tired old guys...oops, I love that Favre, don't I...never mind...

Oh yeah, no, no access. I kinda hinted to the little bro that he might want to let me have a look, but he hasn't responded.

The suspense is killin' me!

P.S. What's with every baseball player I pick up getting injured the next day???

You gotta give up the baseball. The season belongs to the Chimps. Beltre and Rolen are studs. My pitching also came back with a vengeance. I think 3 months ago I had the worst pitching staff in the league, now I'm tops in all but 1 category (Wins)!

And you also made no comments about the Chimps. You must hate my team, or you're just smarting from their baseball dominance.

I can set you as a co-owner of one of the sportsline teams (so you can have access to the site), but you gotta promise not to make any moves for that team or else you'll piss someone off fierce.

Naturally, I would be most flattered to be an honorary owner of the storied franchise of the mighty 'Cats. (But then, would my reporting be considered biased--or is it too late for that?) But I'm not sure how bro would feel about that (ok, I lie, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't like it).

Totally up to you, though. I'd be happy to observe the league and give my outsider's perspective. In fact, the voyeur thing is kinda fun. I will gladly offer my solemn oath not to do anything I shouldn't--anything but just look at what's going on, in fact. But then, I would also understand the views of those actually in the league, should they feel it is not such a good idea.

Meanwhile, I will enjoy my repose in my own bed as best I can (and make no complaints).

Ok, the Chimpy's. Aaron Brooks has never done much for me. Actually, I don't feel too qualified to comment, b/c I don't pay attention to him. He seems a little more promise than substance, though. I know, former Brett protege--I should like him. I think Rudi remains to be proven. Portis of course should be good--and I hear the Redskins now like running and will pound him into the ground (which is maybe good for this year--but the future?). Ya gotta like Santana Moss--but doens't he have a new gig? I'm not up to date on that. I never found Pollard to be useful. And Jimmy Smith? Well, some people like him. If you want like 100 pts from him in each of 2 games and nothing the rest of the season, then he's pretty good. But I could be wrong.

Maybe Matt should tinker with the Specialists. Wasn't that a Sharon Stone/Sylvester Stallone movie?

ok - so basically no one likes my team. poor me. so be it! i like being the underdog.

Aaron Brooks is an enigma wrapped in a puzzle wrapped in a used condom. He always puts up good numbers in aggregate, but he's a bit erratic. But I had to take him.

Portis is a stud.
