Write it in the sky in Gossamer Teardrops

The Chimps are no longer the worst team in the MMFL.

Glen is going to write the recap for Week 12. I'm going to note a few things about the playoffs. Tie-breaker order is TBD since there are so many potential variations.

So far there are 2 teams who have clinched a playoff berth (6 total playoff spots):

1. Mr. Fred (wins tie-breaker over Glen)
2. Glen

The winner of this week's game of Kanako vs. Bill will likely clinch a playoff spot. That leaves 8 teams in the mix after week 13:

1. Joe (just needs one more win to clinch - may not even need that one win)
2. Ron
3. Bill
4. Sei
5. Kanako
6. Christine
7. Scott (not really sure I have a chance at this point)
8. Pete (not sure he has a chance either)

Kevin and Melissa cannot make the playoffs.

Now the question becomes, if we have a bunch of 6-8 teams on our hands at the end of the season, how should the playoff teams be decided? There will undoubtedly be a few teams with conflicting head to head records. I welcome suggestions - I like using head to head record as the first tie breaker, but if we have a cluster of 6-8 teams, total points scored might be a better tie breaker. Peanut gallery?

Actually I just thought of this structure for tie breakers:

1. Division tie breakers are set first. So the 6-8 teams will be prioritized by division first. Tie breaker will be head to head first and then total points.

2. Next will be head to head. So if we have a 6-8 from all three divisions all vying for a playoff spot, head to head record will rule unless there are conflicting head to head results. In the event of conflict, total points will determine the playoff team. An illustration of a conflict is as follows:

1. Scott
2. Sei
3. Kanako

Scott loss to Sei but he beat Kanako
Sei loss to Kanako but he beat Scott (didn't happen, this is just an example)
Kanako beat Sei but loss to Scott

You know, I'm overthinking this, we probably won't have a conflict!

Actually, Sei did lose to both Kanako and Bill but he did defeat me. It is possible to have a conflict if Sei loses his last two, I win my last two, and either Kanako or Bill lose their last two (although they face each other this week!).

Clearly Ron and Joe are practically a lock - and the winner of the Kanako/Bill Grudge match will likely also clinch. Hard to tell!

Not sure I'm following everything as I wipe the tears away from my eyes -- it's tough to lose by a handful of points two weeks in a row ... with the games being decided on Monday night after hefty leads erode away ...

The Bobcats are the Buffalo Bills of the MMFL -- a great team that deserves better!

Evidence of the Bobcat Greatness:

Points Scored (ranking):
Glen - 1402 (1)
Scott - 1006 (7)
Pete - 894 (12)

Remember, only 12 teams.

I've always thought that total points is the fairest measure of a teams accomplishment. That being said, it seems head to head record should count for something. So, in my usual long-winded fashion, how about:

First tie-break:

Determine the head-to-head record of all teams tied at a given record. If there are 4 teams at 6-8, determine the record of each team against each other team at 6-8 and that record will determine the ranking of teams.

Second tie-break:

If there are any teams tied, then use total points during the year.
